BT Mobile launched its 5G service back in late 2019, but initially it was only available to BT Halo customers (a premium BT Broadband service). Now though, everyone can jump on board.
As of today (January 10th), BT Mobile has opened up its 5G service to all customers, allowing you to choose one of four plans, offering between 6GB and 100GB of data.
Currently 5G from BT is only available on handset plans – you can’t get it on SIM Only, but you can choose between the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G, OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, and Huawei Mate 20X 5G, so there are some great 5G phones available to pair your 5G data with, and plans start from just £45 per month, which isn’t bad at all considering you get both 5G and a high-end handset.

Whether you’re watching HD TV or sport on the go, or FaceTiming your family on the way home, 5G makes a huge difference to everyday experiences and opens up even more exciting new experiences like seamless augmented reality and HD mobile gaming.”
Double data with Halo
While this move is great news for those who don’t have BT Halo, those who do haven’t been forgotten about, as they additionally benefit from double data on all plans, along with an unlimited data option.
BT Mobile shares its 5G infrastructure and spectrum with EE, which is great news for customers, as it means there’s 5G coverage in more UK locations than rivals, with partial coverage in 50 towns and cities at the time of writing.
As there’s not yet coverage in most places you should definitely check the coverage around you before opting for a 5G plan, but we’d expect 5G coverage will increase quickly, so even if you don’t have it now you might do soon.
